Hebei in wartime mode: 13 million people screened for covid19

Shijiazhuang was covid free since July 2020, lives were pretty much back to normal. Now it seems the joyride is over. The city shifts into wartime mode as Hebei Province reported 19 local infections and 40 asymptomatic cases between January 2 and January 4, according to data from Chinese health authorities. It’s reported the patient zero’s covid genetic sequencing indicated that of a foreign strain. This foreign strain is reported to have an incubation period of more than 14days, hence 14 + 7days of quarantine is required for all international arrivals.

The first round of tests in Shijiazhuang and Xingtai, Hebei Province, had more than 13 million people tested for nucleic acid with 364 positive cases. A soft lockdown is initiated in Shijiazhuang to curb infection and help facilitate mass testing. Many flights to and from Shijiazhuang have been cancelled, railway station closed to passengers leaving the city. All residents are banned from leaving their communities or the city. Mask-shift community testing stations are installed working day and night in the severe cold. According to the local authorities, if a resident test positive the whole community or apartment will undergo mandatory quarantine for 14days amidst nucleic acid test.
